News Release -
NEW ACTIONAIR MARINE FIRE DAMPER DESTINED FOR WORLD WIDE APPLICATION
The best can get better still! Ruskin Air Management has launched a new, improved version of the world-beating Actionair A-60 Marine Fire Damper.
Purpose designed
for application in marine and offshore projects,
Actionair
A-60 Marine Fire Dampers provide a complete solution
for fire safety requirements in association with
ventilation and A/C systems.
Units are now available in an extended range of
sizes from 100mm X 100mm up to 1m square, with the
option of multiple units to meet the needs of even
larger applications
Major success
Ruskin has already achieved major success with the
Actionair A-60 Marine design - particularly with
builders of fast ferries and luxury yachts. Orders
have been won from both European yards, including
those in Italy and Germany and as far afield as
Australia and Chile.
Fire at sea can present an even greater hazard than
on land. Safety equipment designed for marine application
has to meet a whole list of stringent specifications.
Actionair's A-60 Marine Fire Damper was the world's
first to achieve the coveted USCG-EU MRA Certification,
confirming its suitability for use in ships and other
types of marine application all over the globe.
Every unit also bears a stainless
steel plate showing the distinctive “ship's wheel” logo
that symbolises Marine Equipment Directive compliant
(MED)
approval and an individual number so that it can
be tracked throughout its life cycle.
Other key approvals include Lloyds EC Type Approval
(Module B), Germanischer Lloyd Approval, Lloyds Certificate
of Fire Approval and American Bureau of Shipping
Certification (www.actionair.co.uk)
Performance enhancing
In its latest form the Actionair A-60 incorporates
a number of performance enhancing features. These
include an electric actuator option with a 60
second reset time, an LED indicator on the Electrical
Thermal Release (ETR) and a more versatile Pneumatic
Thermal Release (PTR) design.
A-60 Marine Fire Dampers incorporate
aerodynamic, stainless steel interlocking opposed
blades, operated
by a “failsafe” spring mechanism. “Failsafe” is
achieved by means of a unique and patented Electrical
Thermal Release (ETR), which operates automatically
at 72°C, or if the power supply is interrupted.
A manual test switch permits
periodic operation of the damper for test purposes,
simulating actual “failsafe” release
under fire conditions. Dampers can now be reset in
just 60 seconds after a test.
A green LED lamp is now built into the ETR housing
- giving clear and simple visual confirmation that
the actuator is receiving power, the ETR is correctly
fitted and the thermal fuse is intact.
The A-60's Pneumatic Thermal Release (PTR) assembly
is supplied complete to 500mm of nylon tubing to
connect the quick-fit PTR couplings and actuator.
Activation of the in-built 74°C fusible link causes
air to exhaust from the actuator causing the spring
loaded PTR to close the damper. Reset after testing
can be achieved in as little as 3 seconds.
Rectangular and circular ductwork
A-60 Marine Fire Dampers are available for use with
both rectangular and circular ductwork. They can
be used in systems with maximum pressures up to
1500Pa and duct velocities to 15m/s. Models are
suitable for both vertical and horizontal applications
with airflow in either direction.
The stainless steel aerodynamic blades are mounted
in a standard 1.2mm galvanised steel flanged type
casing with a single penetration for the drive control.
An optional 316 all stainless steel casing is also
available. This complies with Class A and B of Eurovent
2/2 and HVCA Ductwork specification DW144. While
strong and reliable, the A-60 Marine casing is light
in weight to permit easier installation.
Blades -
which are available in either 430 grade or 316
stainless steel options
- are normally open,
with "fail-safe" to the closed position.
IP54 rated Control Modes are available for 24 volt,
120 volt or 230 volt electrical supply. Control Modes
are designed for location outside the ductwork for
easy access during installation and maintenance and
are direct coupled to the Damper using a unique positive
connection system.
